SpRiNg... FaBuLoUs sPrInG

When soccer season comes around, we know we are full fledge into Spring. I love spring. I love the warmer weather, the longer days, the outdoor events starting up. I especially love the bright colors of the flowers and the fresh air coming through my windows after having them closed all winter. The indecisive weather, I could do without. But since it is getting warmer instead of colder - I can't complain!

Soccer isn't always fun and games - once in awhile a ball in the face is bound to happen...which requires daddy hugs.

Emilie ended the season by kicking the ball super hard on her very last kick, and the ball went right on a neighbor girls face - breaking her glasses and giving her a cut and bruised eye. It wasn't a fun way to end the season - both girls felt bad. But other then that - both kids had a great and fun season.

Memorial Day is now deemed as "Mario Day" at our house. Kamden thought that's what we were saying when we said Memorial Day. Therefore, he insisted on having a Mario party. So we made a red cake with blue frosting and add a few sprinkles and some candles, and WhaLa - a Mario Party!

Thanks to Pintrest, we made these fabulous string eggs for Easter. The kids had a great time with their creations, and I loved the decorations that were created.

And then there's always the real thing.

So much fun! (and a mess, and a pain - but still so fun, right?!)

How Old????

I just happen to be sitting at my computer when I overheard this conversation between Jarin and his friend. I think it's funny enough that I wanted to write it down.

Friend: "How old is your dad?"
Jarin: "He's 100...almost. No wait...he's 50. No...no...wait...he's 17 I think."

Today I am posting whatever I have of this and that...

First up is a classic.

Kamden came to me like this...

and asked..."Wipe my bum please."

Maybe it's one of those moments that you had to be there, but to see that cute little face, and all that toilet paper...well, it made me laugh.

We had a ward activity of skiing. As usual, I became the unofficial/official photographer. I didn't ski, but I walked around the mountain with my camera to get my family, (and the rest of the ward while I was at it. But no worries, I'm only posting my family!)

We sent my nephew, Taylor, on his way to serve a 2 year LDS Mission to North Carolina. I will miss him and his really tight hugs and his best smile ever. But I'm so grateful for the service he's doing, and for the example he is being to all these cousins of his.

Spring Break Hike

Brayden and I went on the Crimson Trail hike (Logan Canyon). I had been on this hike a couple of times - but always at night with a flashlight. I had heard how beautiful it is, so when Brayden suggested it - I was all for it. Now that I have done both...I think I prefer the night time. Mostly because when it's dark, I can't see how close I actually am to the edge, and how very steep and far down those cliffs are. At night, I'm just naive to the whole thing.

I took this picture to show the trail we were on. See that patch of snow right along the edge of the cliff? That's the trail. We did run into patches of snow, and those patches made me a bit (OK, a lot!) nervous. Slippery snow and cliffs don't get along well!!

We finally make it safely down the mountain, only to find that the bridge back to the parking lot was NOT THERE! The Crimson trail is a loop, and I was not about to go all the way back around the mountain when my tired feet were only 1/4 mile from my car. So we had to find the best place to cross the river. This picture doesn't do the river justice - there were places that were pretty swift and scary.

Another day off - we took the kids to the park, then went to Crystal Hot Springs.

It's a zoo out there

Ira had a seminar for his continuing education in Salt Lake City. Since his travel expenses and hotel were work related and a write off, we took the whole family (good smarts, don't cha think? :) ). While Ira was at the Seminar, I took the kids to the...ZOO. I have to confess - the zoo is one of my least favorite places to go. But every few years I feel it is my mommy duty to give the kids some "culture" - ha ha.

Brayden took over 200 pictures of...animals. Now what to do with those 200+ pictures??

When we got to our first animal - the elephant. Jarin asked, "Is it real?...no wonder I could smell stinky butts." Whose child is he anyways? Surely not mine!!!

As part of our "pass of all passes", we get to go to a couple ReAl Soccer games. None of us are really into soccer, but just the atmosphere is a ton of fun.

We met my brothers family there too.

Jarin: "I've been waiting all day for Kamden to grow up...when will he grow up like me?"

We were driving by a farm which was being fertilized. Jarin sniffs a big sniff and says, "Mmmm...that smells like my strawberry nose" (the strawberry nose was a yummy smelling gas mask from the dentist)!
Jarin: "Is is "fat man or bat man"?
Jarin "My heart is dirty and needs to be cleaned." Then I wash his face, and he says, "My heart is clean!" (He watched me put lipstick on once, and thought my top lips looked like hearts. Now he thinks that lips are hearts). Which makes me wonder what he thinks when he says, "The Holy Ghost makes our heart feel good."
Jarin asked with a great big smile that melts my heart, "Mom, are you being grumpy with me?" (yes, I was - but that started us both laughing instead!)
We were having a family home evening helping Emilie to prepare for baptism. We talked to her about making good choices and right vs. wrong. We were trying to prompt her to give an answer when Ira asked her, "What's opposite of right, (he asked it in the context of right choices), and she answered, "Left." (you should have seen the look Ira and I gave each other - it spoke volumes!)
Same family home evening... we were talking about the Holy Ghost. Jarin (being very tired and very sensitive at the moment anyways), started going balistic on us. Not only did he say he was scared of the Holy Ghost. And not only was he crying because he was scared, but he was SOBBING, and it continued for about an hour (which is when he fell asleep still crying)!! Then first thing out of his mouth when he woke up was that he was scared of the Holy Ghost! We think we are doing the right thing by teaching our children, but really - we have taumatized Jarin! I can only imagine what was going on in his little imagination. Did I mention that FHE finished earlier than planned?
Ira was feeling the baby move at a particularly active time. He said, "Is he moving furniture around in there?" (some days it sure feels like it!)
There was a baby being blessed in church Sunday, and Jarin saw the priesthood men in a circle, and loudly proclaims "Look mom, their playing ring around the rosies!"
Emilie asked me, "Since our eyes are blue, how come everything doesn't look blue to us?" I explained how we see through the black circle in our eyes. She said, "Then the blue is just for decoration?"
Jarin walks around the house constantly saying, and singing "I am a Child of God, and He has sent me here." And when anyones voices get too loud, he sings, "Love at home... Love at home..." I'm not sure he even knows the meaning of what he's singing, but it stops the contention and usually starts a few giggles.
Ira was talking about leap year, and Emilie asked, "What is leap year? Is it when we leap to school?"
Ira asked Emilie if you put plastic wrap or foil over a pan going in the oven. She said tinfoil. Ira said "Good thinking Emilie." She responded by saying, "No, I didn't think...my teacher told me." (thank goodness for teachers, so we don't have to think!)
Jarin asked me if he could have something, and I had told him no. He responded by asking again, then answering his own question as if he were me, "Of course you can sweetheart." (it's no wonder he gets whatever he wants - how cute is that?)
In church today, a half a second before the sacrament prayer was being said, (so it was very quiet in the room), Jarin observed that his dad was sitting on the stand, and calls out in his loudest voice, "That's my daddy up there!"
Brayden said, "I've learned to never mess with a pregnant person."
Today I told Jarin he was a sweetHEART, and he said, "No, I have a beautiful HEART, and mommy is beautiful too." (a comment like that, he can have whatever he wants!)
This one was said a year or so ago, but it was one of the best we've had ever - so it bears repeating! Emilie said to mom, "Someday I am going to marry my prince, just like you married your prince."
Jarin said, "We don't say 'monkey butt' do we?"
Jarin see's a bumble bee and says, "It's a bum-bum bee".
Emilie singing, "Loose, footloose, kick off my church shoes."
